Some Airline Fees are Worth a Few BucksNovember 18th, 2013 by The JetSetter Team | Comments Off on Some Airline Fees are Worth a Few Bucks
It’s almost impossible to find yourself somewhere that doesn’t have internet now, and an airplane is no different. For a generally modest fee, you get a stable internet connection that will allow you to entertain yourself, check emails, or plan a travel itinerary. Some airlines offer discounts if you purchase a Wi-Fi connection prior to departure. This is an especially good option for nervous fliers, as it provides a great distraction.
If you’re going to be in the air for a while, it might be worth it to buy a first class ticket or at least an emergency row seat that offers extra space. Generally, these upgrades are moderate in price and can make a world of difference.
Advanced Check In
Paying extra for early check in can offer a huge advantage on airlines like Southwest, where seating is open and first come, first served. If you’d like to sit by a particular person or group of people, you’ll want to opt for early check in, which will also give you first choice of overhead bin space. Avoid early boarding fees on airlines with seating assignments as they offer little value to the customer.
If you’re flying a lot and have a long layover (or a series of them), consider a day pass at the airline’s VIP club. These usually run around $30 and provide a modicum of luxury in the usually boring airport. These places offer snacks and drinks and usually allow children under two-years-old free admittance.
Though it may seem tempting, you should never agree to pay for carry-on luggage, as most airlines offer at least a carry on for free. Don’t forget to factor these types of things in when selecting your ticket. If you can avoid it, find tickets without added convenience fees, and try not to pay the heightened cost of snacks and drinks when you’re in the air.
