Master Sommelier to Choose LAN Airline Wine ListApril 26th, 2014 by The JetSetter Team | Comments Off on Master Sommelier to Choose LAN Airline Wine List
As though you need another reason to travel in style, LAN Airlines has announced that their wine list is to be hand selected by a sommelier. The list will be available to Premium Business Class flyers, so now you’ve got an even better reason to upgrade! Jason Hartman loves traveling in style, and we bet you do too! What better way to enjoy a long flight than by relaxing with an expertly chosen glass (or two) of wine?
After reviewing over 300 Chilean and Argentinian wines, the expert wine panel and Master Sommelier, Hector Vergara, have narrowed the list down to a final 30. Among the offerings will be 18 wines from Chile and 12 from Argentina. The selection will include Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir—as well as more unique blends meant to appeal to the connoisseur. The airlines opted to upgrade the wine options in an attempt to offer a premier travel experience that offers a little extra luxury.
The wines will be featured on six different menus that rotate throughout the year. Five wines will be offered on each menu, and menus will rotate every two months until March of 2015.
Choosing the wines wasn’t easy—while sommeliers typically select wines based on the features of the vines, these particular wines are meant to be consumed on an airplane. Cabin pressure at high altitudes cause changes in sensory perceptions, typically dulling them. The wines that make the 2014 list are expressive and fruity, meant to standout against the effects of air travel.
Beginning in May of 2014, the wine list will be available on LAN Airline’s Boeing 787, 767, and Airbus A340 flights.
