Terrorism is Nothing New When it Comes to Planning a Trip Overseas

The human brain is an anxious beast. It loves to ignore the best and anticipate the worst. It is absolutely convinced that blood will literally be flowing in the streets of Paris the moment your airplane’s wheels leave the ground in America. When it comes to planning a trip, we think you should take sensible precautions and nothing more.
1. Check state department warnings: The U.S. Department of State will tell you exactly what areas of the globe they consider to be dangerous. Check the latest postings HERE . If your destination isn’t listed, why worry?
2. Big city common sense: Just like you wouldn’t walk through certain areas of Miami, New York, or Los Angeles at three in the morning, familiarize yourself with the “rough
areas” where you’re going. Every city of size has them. Know where they are and use common sense.
3. Track local politics: Familiarize yourself in advance with the ebb and flow of the local political scene where you’re planning a trip to. Being at least conversant with the issues of the day will allow you intelligently participate in conversation and not look like an “ugly American.”.
Remember – travel is a good thing. Not something to be feared. We’re one great big human family living on this globe and should never – ever – let the kooks win. Do you have concerns about a particular country? Please feel free to share them.
