How To Save Time While You Travel

JS0410For many, travel has become an experience that requires a lot of time. From the planning stages to the return flight, your luxury vacation or business trip (or, in Jason Hartman’s case both) may be taking up too much of your valuable time, which is your greatest luxury. Before you know it, your trip is over and you’re left wondering what exactly it was that all of your time was spent on.

Luckily, there are a lot of people working to make life operate as efficiently as possible. To get as much from your vacation as possible, follow these simple suggestions.

First, hire an experienced travel planner to coordinate your activities. While good ones charge a fee, they’re well worth the cost. They’ll likely save you money, book the luxury venues that best fit your needs, and take care of all the annoying dirty work required to book a vacation.

Consider renting a car. While public transportation and taxi cabs can be helpful, car rentals will ultimately save you a lot of time—plus, you get to drive a cool new car for a few days. Instead of waiting for a cab or train, you could be utilizing your time by driving to your intended destinations. For the ultimate in luxury, consider hiring a personal car. This way, you don’t have to familiarize yourself with local traffic laws, but you’re able to enjoy the benefits of a personal vehicle.

Next, fly first class. In addition to the added comfort of a luxury flight, you’ll get a few time savings perks, like entering and exiting the plane. You’ll get better food, nicer bathrooms, and more luxurious service. Essentially, you are beginning your vacation before your travel is underway.

Embrace technology. There are a ton of apps available for your smartphone that will help you save time while traveling. Many airlines have apps that allow you to easily check in online to avoid airport lines, and cities often have guides that come in app form. There are pre-travel checklist apps, banking apps, and ticket (from play to plane) apps.

Finally, pay in advance wherever you’re able. Without the hassle of payment, you’ll be able to easily check out of hotels, return rental cars, etc.

While these seem like small savings in time, they add up. Now you’ll have time to fit in that extra spa treatment, surfing lesson, or business meeting. (photo credit: Ian Sane via photopin cc)
